It was Friday April 27, 2018 and it was the last day of school for this enchanting and delightful group of young women.
Arriving in the seaside port of Byblos in northern Lebanon, I stepped off the bus and could hear sounds of joy! Girls being girls and lots of honking horns - the kind I ordinarily cringe at when my daughters blast them in my ear but this had a slightly different sound… my first guess was that it was a wedding celebration.
The harbour was alive with the sounds of these girls and then I saw the sea of pink… sitting on the sea wall on a grey afternoon.
Such innocent fun and excitement exuded from these graduates of their high school class of 2018. Before I knew it I had dropped my bag and their magnetic force had me standing on that sea wall with them.
It brought back memories of my own last days at school many years ago - friendships that still prevail, life paths that have gone in all different directions and now many with our own girls approaching similar milestones in their own lives.
Those carefree days when we all still lacked so much confidence but we clung tightly to each other, muddled through and have some wicked tales to tell indeed.
I wonder what these girls will be doing in 10 years from now…. they spoke to me of their desire to study further and to travel, as well as requesting I share these images with the world on social media cause hey its all about the “likes” right…
So here they are my lovely little ladies… a chance encounter that still makes me smile. I wish you all so much good fortune and much love in your journey into adulthood and the real world. Have fun, hold on to your girl gang so tight and with both hands, learn from the mistakes, try and be sensible, NEVER get in a car with strangers, always call or text home and be kind wherever you go.
